The Checklist
A checklist of things to consider before Garage Builders of Raleigh can start your garage construction project. Please read through the items below. They will trigger ideas to make your new garage the best design for you. Take notes.

Plot Plan
This is a survey you usually have from the closing of your house that shows boundaries, home, utility and driveway placement.
Note: We have a surveyor available to create a survey if you have no survey. Your proposed garage can be drawn on your existing survey to pull permits. Please call Garage Builders of Raleigh early, “ASAP”, to schedule your survey – We can normally produce one in a week.
Set Back Restrictions
Codes determine how close proposed garage location can be placed to property boundaries.
Note: Call your local county or city zoning and permits department to find find out your "setback" requirements. Let us know if we can assist you with this.
Foundation
We recommend poured footings with masonry foundation walls.
Plans and Permits
Our turnkey package includes CAD plans, engineering, specifications and permits.
Tree Removal and Site Preparation
We can assist with the removal of trees and concrete.
Electrical Packages
Note: This requires a custom quote taken care of by Garage Builders of Raleigh.
Number of Windows, Entry Doors, Garages Doors
Note: Have an idea of how many, size, and location. Details will be discussed during the site visit.
Remote Garage Door Openers
Note: Two kinds, chain and belt drive (the quieter of the two)
Type of Siding
Painting
You or Me?
Note: Cement Lap Siding and wood siding needs to be primed and caulked for final inspection.
Roof Pitch
4/12, 7/12, 8/12, 10/12, 12/12 are most common on our garages.
Eaves
Usually done to match the house. We will also match your “gingerbread" trim. Standard 1 foot eaves are most common.
Second Story Design
With or without dormers or loft storage.
Stair Options
Inside, outside, location, direction, permanent or pull down, (wood or metal)
Finished Out Interiors
To workshop or living space standards.
Driveway Extensions, Gravel, Sidewalks and Steps
We offer driveway extensions which typically cost less when done in concert with the build
Shingle Matching
Note: Knowing what is on your house, brand and color, helps.
Appearances to Match Your Home
Note: Realize fading in paint color, shingles and vinyl siding has often occurred on your home.
Gutters
